I wish I could find those perfumed threads. I've seen ads for them in the UK cross stitch magazines, but I have yet to find the floss in any stores in the States.

Hello - First: fantastic blog!
I also find myself with numerous projects going on at the same time :-)

If you have any tips on using the new light effects threads or any metallics - that would be great. I find them always twisting and shredding on me even though I am careful.

Your tips are truly wonderful keep it up, and Thanks!

I use my bobbin boxes and to solve the problem of losing the colour code number off the bobbin, I create a table of all the different colours in each section of the box and also writing the code on the bobbin with a sharpie also can solve this problem. Do you have any tips for storing your cross stitch and threads when traveling?

I love your list of "Must Do" projects. I am currently working on a Family Sampler that I designed. It has the following information on it:
The name of our community (stitched)
A charted design of our home (stitched - this is a very realistic
depiction of our home - love it!
Name of my husband and my name with Wedding date
Name and date of birth of our children
A phrase - Love Binds our Hearts Together
   Upper and lower case alphabet

It includes a simple border. There are 3 bluebirds near the top.
There is a heart motif near the wedding date.
There are two stylized oak leaf and acorn motifs.

I am stitching this on 25 count (over 2) light tan fabric. It will be 18 X 24 inches.

I enjoy reading your newsletter. Thank you.

Iona,
I found this article on Celtic symbolism quite interesting. Thank you for providing it.
I would be interested in some information regarding samplers. So many designers use this term when the charts don't have what I consider the essentials of a sampler - alphabet and specialty stitches.

I love to cross stitch, however, the past few years I have had trouble with my vision. I just can't seem to see the intricate patterns like I used to. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the fabric and patterns larger so I don't have to strain so much? Thanks!

You have great tips that I didn't before. Thanks for the blog!

I too have been stitching with HDF silks for several years (love them!) and I wanted to mention one particularly amazing thing you can do at HDF and nowhere else (that I know of) - custom-create the colors for a variegated floss. Very easy to do, all the instructions are in the Forums. The only caveat is that in order to dye a custom batch, there has to be a minimum amount ordered - not an extreme amount, and there are many 'silk collectors' on the forums - I have yet to see a color variation that has *not* gotten dyed to order. So if you have a design that you really want to do in a color combination you can't find anywhere else, you can always make it at Vikki's HDF!

Just a note to say I have been stitching with Vikki Clayton's Hand-Dyed Fabrics for over 2 years. They are absolutely some of the finest silks you will ever stitch with. Also, the price of these silks are at least half of what other silks cost. Finally, Vikki is the nicest lady to purchase from. She will answer any question and help you with choosing colors or any other form of question you might have. It is my favorite site for silks!!! Happy Stitching
